![]() This is especially true for the various barbarian clans of the west, who have been set against themselves by the powerful Empire of the east. While Fantasy General II does not break any innovative new ground overall, it does offer a very satisfying rendition of this gameplay style.įantasy General II picks up 300 years after the events of the first game, which focused on the "Shadow Wars" which ravaged the land, leaving a shattered world fought over by numerous factions. Sound familiar? I'm sure you've played something like it before. ![]() ![]() The core gameplay will be familiar to anyone who has played Panzer Corps, Order of Battle, Warhammer 40k: Armageddon, or any number of other games featuring turn-based combat on a hex grid, in which the player carries over units from mission to mission in a lengthy campaign. I would have been okay with putting off the Tier 4s and up until a later date, but that's just asymmetrical. The original Fantasy General, as the name implies, and as you may already know, is direct re-theming of Panzer General, the game that launched a thousand spiritual sequels. The thing that annoyed me about the class gating is that I've gotten almost all the Tier 2 classes to 20, and many of the Tier 3, but then there's the Gladiator at the bottom - a Tier 3 class that requires an EX class to even unlock. I won't avoid it completely, but I doubt it'll be a priority. It seems unfriendly to cancel a quest and destroy a room when other people are clicking "ready," and non-co-op quests are better about me just being able to stop doing it whenever I want without wondering if I'm inconveniencing someone. I tried doing some co-op "properly", with opening a room to a public invite and all, but it bothers me that the etiquette is kind of guessworky. I like how she explains that she comes from a long line of very pious clergy, which certainly proves that they may be cosplaying Catholicism, but it ain't the same thing. It's pretty sad when fun characters are stuck at lower rarities, especially in a game like GBF where they have fewer skills on top of lower level caps. I don't recommend being like me, but it isn't that bad.) (I have not done any co-op in quite a while. You may find yourself lacking Blue Sky Crystals if you don't occasionally clear co-op dailies. Oh, and the 'co-op treasures' you need to complete the CCW it also drop from Extreme and Maniac level showdowns. You can buy distinctions with prestige pendants (or get them from Rose Queen, but that's an impractical source), buy creeds with renown pendants, and get starter replicas from the shop with those plus Legendary Merits. Grinding them to earn distinctions and creeds and replicas and general rewards is a good idea, but it's not strictly necessary for anything short of 5* Class Champion and Dark Opus weapons, I think. You don't even need personal strength, since it's easy to get hugely overpowered players to come in and do the actual heavy lifting for you. Probably the thing I like least is the co-op quest section: it's not as convenient as ordinary raids or quests, and will probably be even less so as it gets more difficult, and yet a lot of interesting classes seem to be gated behind it.Ĭlick to expand.I think they're only hard-gated behind progression through it, which is pretty straightforward, you just need to be willing to spend some AP. And of course I'm using the Arcarum tickets as quick as I get them, because I like the format of the expeditions: the randomness obscures some of the grind, and the timelock prevents it from getting too old. Taking advantage of the celebration to participate in/leech from a lot more raids than I normally do, and spending AP there and on special quests as well. ![]() I got my 10-part draw ticket, and I'm pretty sick of Murkys by now. (It turns out I probably won't find room in my Fire party for Drunken Draph Nun, but I appreciate the sentiment.) I both anticipate and dread being completely overwhelmed by a slew of 10-rolls over the holiday and all the new implications of how the world works. Today, I was looking at the Broken Bottle, almost dreading to find out what that was going to mean. Yesterday I got a Demitasse, and tried to figure out just how in the world you were going to beat your opponents senseless with a porcelain cup even before finding out it conjured up a phantom thief in cafe waitress cover. This free daily draw is really showcasing the often hilarious aspect of the "pull a weapon, get the services of a character" gacha.
